What the fuck is going on these daysssss… Me?  Just clocking in and working on the project car in the garage.  I haven’t posted in a while on my IG but I did start back up on automotive stuff…. just because it’s been the most recent thing I’ve shot…. So why did I make the trip all the way 2 hours South and visit Robert Turnbrow?  I was planning to just go there, pick up parts, and head back… but instead, the quick day trip turned into a 8 hrs trip…

Since it was a long drive, I asked Law, another Toyota nostalgic car guy, to see if he needed any parts to grab at Robert’s… he said sure and we were on our way at 1PM…

 

We arrive and pull up to the driveway at around 3PM… Robert is there waiting for us and behind him is a driveway of two dead AE86 coupe bodies…

 

And when you look to the right, there’s a Corolla sedan lowered on some mesh wheels…

 

I thought it was a normal Corolla until we looked under the hood… it’s now powered by a CA18DET… 

 

CA swaps are not popular nowadays as people have turned to SR swaps … Seems like they were big in the mid 2000s from what I’m researching… Robert’s CA head is a 4 Port from Europe… 

 

Such a nostalgic feel looking into the interior… the cluster is from a MX73 or Toyota Cressida…

 

Law definitely liked the feel of the car from just sitting in it…

 

Robert’s the kinda guy that will build so bulletproof…  that he’d trust us to drive… or he’s just a really really nice guy lol…

 

Law took it for a spin on some back roads and he said it felt super solid…

Other than the paint and mismatched panels, everything on the car is straight… the front end may not look like your typical North American KE because the front end has been swapped to quad head lamps vs the dual…

 

Apparently depending which continent you live in, the E70’s come in all different sorts of specs…

The CA18DET powered Corolla is managed with Link G4 ECU… I’m also running a Link Standalone ECU in my project car…

 

Robert’s choice in cars and swaps… I always look forward to because it’s something I don’t see often and really appreciate…

Over the years, Robert picks up old inexpensive AE86’s as parts cars… not sure how many he’s had over the years but has a couple of 4ag blocks, itb’s, interior panels, carpet, and a bunch of stock parts…

 

Anyone need a 3tc block?

A pure form of the Toyota Corolla GTS… The engine bay may look good but the rear qtr panels of this car are rusted… kinda sad but this coupe also has a complete interior.. 

 

While Law, Robert, and I were looking around, Robert’s wife made us a ceviche type dip with tortillas… super good!!

 

Don’t forget the Bud Light…

 

Sitting in Robert’s garage is his personal Kouki GTS… motor is being rebuilt and will be back on the streets soon…

 

Robert also has a Mk4 Supra which is down… can anyone spot why?

 

There’s so many valuable/sentimental parts… 

 

Law taking a “water” break…

We went back to the Corolla Sedan and looked around some more… these lamp covers are supposably super rare…

 

Check out that Abarth Steering wheel…. only 2 spokes… and another super rare part…

Law and I headed back to Houston around 9p and we didn’t get back until around 11:30 PM… long day but worth it seeing what Robert has around his house… Thanks for having us Robert!
