The 2017 Mayday Garage x Wekfest Pre Meet – Best Ricer Car Meet of the Year?

What is the Mayday Garage x Wekfest Pre Meet?  When and where did it even take place?  Check out words and photos from one of the best ricer meets ever thrown by Mayday Garage.

If you’ve never been to one of Mayday Garage’s meets, you’re totally missing out.  I may be a bit bias since I do help out with organizing and planning, but it wouldn’t have been possible without Moontower Inn, volunteers, friends, and spectators.  So… special shout out to all you guys!

This is the 4th or 5th Wekfest Pre-Meet Mayday Garage has helped organized… I think… and every year, Johnp and I always ask ourselves if we should do it.  Our decision is always back and forth until a month or two out from the day of the meet til we say, “Fuck it, let’s do it.”  Last year, we decided to throw the pre meet at Sigma Brewery during their grand opening day.  The turnout was great but the location and timing was a bit chaotic.  I mean, Mayday meets are chaotic, but it was just too much to handle.  Our original plan was to either go back to Sigma Brewery or throw it at 8th Wonder because the Wekfest show itself was on a Saturday.  Moontower Inn wasn’t an option because the shop across is actually open until 6p or 7p.  Plans changed thanks to Harvey postponing the Wekfest show to Sunday.  Now we were able to have the event at Moontower on Saturday…

This year we didn’t have the full support of the Mayday Garage crew because… well… life happens.  Luckily, the meet went well with the help of friends and people from the car community…

That’s pretty much it for words about the pre meet and now onto photos…

Those who arrived early at 4p secured parking spots for the night.  Joseph’s NA1 NSX sitting nice and low on polished OEM wheels until his TE37SL’s arrive…

Brad’s white devil Z was the flyer car of the meet… glad his Burt Reynold’s ass made it out…

Dennis’ daily driven neutron white NSX made it out early for the meet too…

Line up of the VIP guest cars at 4P…

A full frontal shot of Brad’s 280Z…

And another shot with my FRS in the back…

This FD RX-7 was trailered from El Paso to Houston for the Wekfest show.  Tito actually hit me up from Khiem’s recommendation and I’m glad he came out…

Chris Young’s RSX is a rare sight to see…

Staging of reserved spots happened around 4P…

Lots of people from out of town like Thaison showed up…

Billy By… one up and coming photographer from Houston…

Cars started rolling in slowly…

Johnp and Dennis To’s Yin and Yang NSX’s….

Another shot of Thaison’s Black Limited AE86…

Thaison didn’t come to Houston alone… he brought Brandon Chaisorn and his AE86 hatch with him…

Speaking of 86’s… PatrickC’s FRS looking show ready…

Probably one of the cleanest IS300 wagons around…

David Li, needs more low…

Justin Rogers is out of the S14 game, but he’s still able to rice up a Mustang tastefully…

The man himself…

Traffic slowed down a little and I would’ve been ok if the meet stayed small and chill…

I didn’t get the full info of what engine is in this fender flared E30 M3 but I do like the way it looks…

Cars and teams slowly trickled in after 5:30P….

The meet is pretty much this… just to hang out, relax, enjoy brews, and talk cars…

If you haven’t tried Moontower Inn, they have some pretty good burgers and exotic weiners.  The wait times can suck if they’re busy, but go on a weekday or mid day.

The Rocky Auto Hakosuka owned by Pecx….

The Thai JDM collector himself….

A rear view of Tito’s FD RX-7… this car is show and all go with 700+ HP…

R32 GTR on regas… Not a rare sight to see nowadays but still nice to see…

Damon Young from MI came into town to visit and hang out….

Nothing but good vibes from the meet…

KerryG and Nhi of Dreamspeed Garage rolled into Houston from Dallas that night too…

Pretty wild looking Focus ST wrapped by Underground Grafix…

A very popular vlogger from Thailand lives in Houston and also good friends with Pec got some good clips of the meet… check out the vlog below…

R8 + BBS LM’s… ballin.

Damn… layin frame.

Seth Hua’s RB V2 FRS on TE37SLs looking clean…

A few of the nostalgic guys were out there too…

TE37SL’s makes most cars look good… I agree in this case…

Hondas hanging out together…

Eric’s Audi chrome wrapped TT with underglow will never get old…

Daniel rolling thru in his VQ powered Z…

The meet literally took over Canal St…

I walked 2 blocks away to see what was out there and found this ER34…

The turn out was awesome… even got a couple of Porsche cars to come out to support…

And the ruckus crew…

The Wekfest crew (right) came out around 8P to check out the meet…

Johnp decided to give away all the old Mayday Garage merchandise as a token of thanks for attending…

While that was happening… the first round of burnouts came…

Those who did burn outs were picked off by the Constables watching the meet. GG…

Proof that @maydaymikey still likes cars… just not imports….

The meet ended around 10:30P when we shut off the lights.  It was a long day for us, but worth it in the end because everyone had fun.  You should really thank JohnP for being the guy behind it all while being short staffed at the Rice Box.

As always, thanks for reading and/or skimming through the photos from the Wekfest Pre Meet.
