Mayday Garage’s 2018 Wekfest Pre-Meet – Yep, I’m just now posting about it because I have some downtime… As usual, Johnp and I scrambled last minute for a location since Moontower Inn was undergoing some construction… so Fabio (OG MG member) mentioned ‘The New Potato’. Located on the East End of Downtown Houston and 2 streets down from Moontower Inn, this was a good meet location candidate because street parking was endless… this was either a good or bad thing…
It worked out I guess because the view of downtown from The New Potato was awesome. We quickly announced the meet 2 weeks before the meet and let it go on from there.
Mayday Garage’s Johnp used his industry contacts and brought out The Burger Joint and Oh My Gogi! for quick food truck bites. The Rice Box truck would normally be there but the trucks were retired late 2017 after the 2nd brick and mortar opened…
Parking for the meet was crazy as people were trying their best to park closest to the main spot… which was in front of the New Potato….
The guys from Wekfest USA came out as usual but I think they spent a little more time around the Pre-Meet this year….

Constables kept rolling thru to see what was going… I had made a bet with @maydayjohnp that the meet would be shut down around 9PM…
It was 7PM and the meet had barely started…

It’s even family friendly…
The meet started to get really crazy…
People and cars filled up the streets… cars were not able to get by…
“If you don’t see a no parking sign, go for it.”
The meet finally gets shut down as Constables from Precinct 5 blocks off one of the exits and starts picking out cars for no front plates (law in TX)… It’s a good thing @maydayjohnp used his white card to calm the cops down. There was a noise complaint by several neighborhood people saying we were racing. This caused the meet to die down at 8:30PM… What I heard from a random person, “This was one of the best meets we’ve been to!”
