2018 Lone Star Drift v.Round 1 – Texas Drifting Fun

Scroll this

When’s the last time you’ve been to a grassroots drift event in Houston?  I think it’s been 4-5 yrs since I’ve been to a Lone Star Drift event… Some things have changed and some haven’t…  check out some of my words and photos of the 2018 Lone Star Drift v.Round 1 (sorry late AF post).

The Lone Star Drift (LSD) series event is one of the longest running grassroots organizations in Texas.  What is grassroots drifting?  It’s pretty much how you start off your drift career… whether you aim to be pro or just want to practice skid racing… grassroots organizations such as LSD helps you practice these skills safely, either in a parking lot, or on a road course such as Texas Motor Speedway (Round 2).  The price to drive is usually $150 for the weekend or a single day for $90.  If my FRS was set up to drift, I’d definitely be down to work on my skids out there… but I have other priorities at the moment so I’ll just be showing you all the fun, cars, and people you’re missing…

I was supposed to arrive early in the morning but got lazy and arrived in the afternoon instead.

I’m already liking what I see after just walking around the pits…

Ran into the Burt Reynolds of Drifting, Mr. Brad Burnett / @maaddbrad

Of course he brought out the 3sge beams powered AE86…

A closer look at Brad’s AE86…

Wondering around the parking lot pits some more I found the #redordead Kenda Tires car crew…

I’m beginning to like these little 2jz powered sedans…

The DriftKing of FRZ’s in Houston, Hunter Cash…. lol.

lol… (  .  Y  .  )

Michael Vorhnoarjaldkjf;alkjd;flja’s IS300… actually thought it was Andrew Hudson’s for a minute….unfortunately, didn’t get any shots of this car on the track 🙁

One of the first cars I ever shot… Marvin’s BMW E30…

Decorations increase HP…

The Jesus of Drift in Houston… Will Parsons.

Brad putting people to sleep…

A warm cloudy day…

I decided to go out on track to check out the talent…

Sorta impressed with the tandems…

I spotted Hunter shooting instead of drifting….

I stepped off track for a little bit and walked by @photosbyJasonScott just chillin with a pupperz…

I found some more usual suspects from coffee and rice / is300 group…

Only adults are allowed to drive son….

A spy shot from a distance of Fielding Shredder’s S14…

I’m taking a break from the track so I’m just walking around checking out the pits some more…

Hmm… media vest though…

Mmm root beer…

The media teams for Round 1….

David vs. Goliath…

Interesting livery and color…

Brad in his 20v AE86 staring at my soul…

One of my favorite cars at the event…

I like this track layout as it is a little more technical… this is the first entry or turn before going into a long sweeper turn so you gotta have decent power or entry to carry through….

An example of sending it through the sweeper by Brandon Bryant’s 350z…

Here’s Kendra Messer, a long time time participating driver of the series… I think when it first began…

I believe this is Aaron Losey in a C6 coming out of the first entry into the long sweeper…

Back then, these Corvettes were $60k+… and now they’re about $15-20k for an LS powered skidding machine…

Just dial in camber in the front and rear and fucking goooooooo…..

Another long time participant of the series is Dewayne Ramsey…

The last time I watched him, he drove a 1jz powered (?) Cressida and now a 240 s13… he did keep his signature car color though…

People called this the ‘Crest White’ car… it’s ok because it probably cleaned up half the cars out there in competition…

Tandems are always fun to watch…

Smoke is cool too…

A smokey view of the exit after the sweeper…

Back to tandems…

A train of cars into the first entry…

A wild 2018 Ford GT appears out of no where….

I still need to work on my motor sport photos a little… sorry for the potato cam processing. Wanted to go for a film grain (shit) look I guess… I’m no @PhotosbyJasonScott T_T

I didn’t get to see the Texas Street Legal series competition… hopefully I get the chance this year to watch…

You don’t see many Pantera hatch s13’s around… actually reminds me of a del sol lol…

Last image of the post… an immaculate 60s Ford Mustang…
